History of the foundation

The Louis Vuitton Foundation, located in the Bois de Boulogne, just steps from the Jardin d’Acclimatation was launched in October 2006, and opened on October 27, 2014.
Its objective is to promote art and culture and to sustain the philanthropic actions undertaken since 1990 by the LVMH group.
The collections and programming of the Foundation are deeply rooted in the history of artistic movements of the 20th and 21st century and exhibited in an architectural setting, designed by the American Frank Gehry. The visionary architect revolutionizes the use of glass and creates shapes never imagined before, to give birth to a bright, light, unique and innovative building. In addition to the artistic and architectural wealth of the Louis Vuitton Foundation, the visitor enjoys panoramic views from the various terraces of the building.
This project is a replica of the foundation established in Venice Pinault, is the media expression of competition between Bernard Arnault, the boss of the world number one luxury, and his rival François Pinault.


From the outside

What can we see ?

A permanent collection : temporary exhibitions, artistic commissions and numerous multidisciplinary events, notably musical, punctuate the programming of the Louis Vuitton Foundation.From autumn 2014 to spring 2015, the inauguration of the Foundation unfolds in several times, each conceived around an exhibition, a specific choice within the collection.
Regarding temporary exhibitions, a solo exhibition of Olafur Eliasson was presented during the winter of 2015. In the spring of 2015, a collection of exceptional works, notably on loan from the biggest international museums.
Finally, music occupies a central place in the life of the Louis Vuitton Foundation. The Auditorium is the place dedicated to the meeting between musicians and artists from all disciplines of contemporary creation.


Inside the foundation

Photo competition

The Louis Vuitton Foundation is organizing a photography contest on the theme of its architecture until June 5, 2018. A jury, made up of representatives of the foundation will then select 5 to 10 photographs. These will be used to illustrate the Foundation’s next poster campaign and broadcast on social media.
